ARTRIOTI — The Faces We Remember
A portrait of Atanas Dalchev — Bulgarian poet, literary critic and translator, and one of the distinctive voices of 20th-century Bulgarian literature. His first independent poetry collection, „Прозорец“, was published in 1926, and his work became known for its concrete imagery, philosophical depth and attention to the material world.
This original illustration is part of ARTRIOTI — my illustrated archive of the writers, artists, actors and musicians who left a lasting mark on Bulgarian culture.
WHY I DREW HIM
I drew Атанас Далчев because there is something quietly powerful in the way he looks at the world.
His poetry finds meaning in ordinary objects, rooms, windows, streets and everyday details — and turns them into something much larger: thoughts about time, existence, solitude and the boundaries of human life.
There is no unnecessary noise in his work. Instead, there is observation, precision and a kind of restrained intensity that makes you stop and look again.
That is exactly why I wanted him to be part of ARTRIOTI.
I draw them so we don’t forget them.
