ARTRIOTI — The Faces We Remember
A portrait of Dora Gabe — Bulgarian poet, writer and translator, and one of the important female voices in Bulgarian literature.
Her work moves between poetry for adults, children’s literature and translation, carrying a sense of sensitivity, clarity and quiet strength. Through her writing, she became part of the cultural memory of several generations.
This original illustration is part of ARTRIOTI — my illustrated archive of the writers, artists, actors and musicians who left a lasting mark on Bulgarian culture.
WHY I DREW HER
I drew Дора Габе because there is something beautifully calm and intelligent in her presence and in her writing.
She belongs to that generation of women who helped shape Bulgarian literature with confidence, curiosity and a strong individual voice.
I wanted this portrait to feel elegant and timeless — not simply as an image of a writer, but as a reminder of a woman who remained deeply connected to language, culture and the world of books throughout her life.
I draw them so we don’t forget them.
