This illustration is part of my ARTRIOTI collection — a tribute to Bulgarian writers, artists and cultural figures whose words continue to feel alive long after they were written.
Why I drew him
Because Yovkov had a rare gift for saying something simple and making it stay with you.
There is warmth in his writing, but also melancholy. Beauty, but never without pain. His characters feel real because they are full of contradictions — just like life itself.
“Жената, момче, е рай, жената е вечна мъка…” carries exactly that feeling: affection, humour, longing and truth in a single sentence.
