ARTRIOTI — The Faces We Remember
A portrait of Valeri Petrov — Bulgarian poet, playwright, screenwriter and translator, whose writing moved effortlessly between tenderness, humour and quiet wisdom. He is also widely known for his Bulgarian translations of Shakespeare.
This original illustration is part of ARTRIOTI — my illustrated archive of the writers, artists, actors and musicians who left a lasting mark on Bulgarian culture.
WHY I DREW HIM
There is something deeply human in Valeri Petrov’s words — gentle, intelligent and never unnecessarily loud.
„Сбогом, мое море!“ carries that feeling of summer coming to an end, of time passing and of trying to hold on to something beautiful just a little longer.
I wanted to turn that feeling into an image you can wear — not as nostalgia, but as a small reminder of a voice worth remembering.
I draw them so we don’t forget them.
